What is Integrative Psychiatry?

At its core, integrative medicine (IM) emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, and is guided by evidence-based practices. It incorporates all appropriate therapeutic and lifestyle approaches, including diet, exercise, mindfulness, supplements, nutraceuticals, and homeopathics, to promote optimal health and healing. While medications are not excluded, the focus is on empowering patients through lifestyle modifications and natural interventions whenever possible.

What sets integrative medicine apart from traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is its strong foundation in empirical evidence. By blending the best of conventional and holistic practices, integrative psychiatry offers a balanced, effective, and compassionate approach to mental health care.

About Me

Andria Henderson, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience in nursing and a passion for holistic, patient-centered care, I am dedicated to helping individuals achieve mental and physical wellness through integrative psychiatry. My journey in healthcare began in 2010 as a registered nurse, and since then, I have worked in diverse settings, including home health, hospice, medical-surgical (cardiac telemetry), psychiatric nursing, and physical rehabilitation with a focus on pain management. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in healing.

I hold a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner from Old Dominion University and a Post-Graduate Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health from Purdue Global University. As a double board-certified nurse practitioner in family medicine and psychiatry, I bring a unique perspective to mental health care, blending evidence-based practices with creative, personalized solutions.

My philosophy is simple: care for clients on their terms. I believe in staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in mental health and integrative medicine to provide the highest quality of care. Whether through psychotherapy, lifestyle modifications, nutraceuticals, or medication when necessary, I work collaboratively with my clients to develop treatment plans that align with their goals and values.

Outside of my practice, I am passionate about learning and teaching, constantly seeking new ways to grow both personally and professionally. This passion fuels my commitment to empowering clients with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive.

I can help! If you’re ready to take the first step toward holistic mental health care, schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit for each other. Together, we can create a path to healing that honors your unique journey.
